Home Based, continued
Art reports that many people come to the group after seeing meeting announcements in the newspaper or by learning about the group from other members. Art has been known to represent the group at community meetings geared toward people intending to start their own businesses here in Tracy. Art has been gratified by the success of his group of entrepreneurs. He worked hard all his life to be successful and is enjoying this opportunity to use his community involvement to help new business people get started and to put something into the business community. While establishing this new group, he did his research by consulting with the founder of a very large entrepreneur group in Las Vegas, and learned how they established and grew their group. Art's Tracy Home-Based Business Group grew so large during the last year that it has been renamed the Entrepreneurs and they have moved several times to larger places to accommodate their growth. The two fundamental components of their meetings is that they contain content helpful to the entrepreneurs who attend, and be fun. The group currently has forty active members and is continuing to grow. The Tracy Entrepreneurs of the Chamber of Commerce may have been started to benefit home-based businesses, but the group is now evolving to include any Tracy business with three or fewer employees. Art feels this change will open new opportunities to the small businesses as its size increases and it becomes better known throughout the Tracy business community. In addition to his work with the Tracy Entrepreneurs, Art serves as an Ambassador for the Tracy Chamber of Commerce. Chamber Ambassadors are local business people who volunteer their time to support the business community. Ambassadors help with a variety of chamber events, preside over ribbon cuttings for new businesses, help make the monthly Mixers a success, recruit new businesses to apply for chamber membership, and often visit local businesses as a vital link between the chamber and the business community. Art Adams has been elected by his peers as the Ambassador of the Year in both 2001 and 2002. Art enjoys public speaking and has been active in the Toastmasters International organization for many years. As a member of Toastmasters, Art achieved both his Competent Toastmaster certificate and his Bronze level of Advanced Toastmaster. He has served as the president of two Toastmasters clubs and actively recruited new members to help them improve both their speaking skills and their confidence. Art's business specialty is in setting up Living Trusts for people who would like to move their accumulated wealth and assets into a trust for protection. He became such a strong proponent for Prepaid Legal services that he represents this rapidly growing organization to help people arrange for affordable legal protection.
