Conflict verses Turbulence By: Keith T. Chiles, MBA "I hate conflict, just get rid of it and anyone who is causing it," is a common statement I hear in my consulting practice. I understand what the client usually means, but I then find it necessary to help them understand the dynamics and the reason why conflict is a necessary part of management.
Industrial Feature: Lynx Enterprises Operating quietly out of the old Handyman warehouse on the outskirts of Tracy, I once heard Lynx Enterprises referred to as a front operation for the CIA. Their black trucks decorated only with a dark purple logo seem to add to their mystique. Vance Anderson examines parts made for a light rail train. Retail Feature Tracy Shooting Supplies Inc. My first involvement in the shooting sports was over twenty years ago when I worked in the government and had an opportunity to shoot competitively on a pistol team that made its way to national matches. Editorial The Economy I predicted a few months ago that the economy would be improving shortly after the end of the conflict in Iraq. Although there are still signs of an improving economy, the recovery has not been as robust as I had expected. What went wrong? I am not blaming the recession on Governor Davis, but his pre-election denial of the fiscal crisis in California, followed by his post-election announcements of record deficits, has brought a lot of uncertainty to the California business community. Uncertainty drives economic recessions and slows the economic recovery. As the media attention moved away from the war in Iraq, they became focused on the state's economic problems which raises more fears of state employee layoffs and a continued sluggish economy. What would the solution be? We need our legislators to stop chasing the political whims and start focusing on the development of a long-term plan for the entire state economy. We are paying for the spending habits of the last few years that suddenly nosed over when the dot-com companies had difficulties and their employee income tax income shifted into state unemployment payments. We need to voice our opinions to those we have elected to represent us that we demand that they adopt a long-term plan for the management of the state and then stick to it. |
Art Adams of CorPro To many Tracy businesspeople the name of Art Adams is synonymous with the home-based business entrepreneur. He is one of many Tracy professionals who operates his Estate Planning Service from an office in his home. He is very active with the Tracy Chamber of Commerce, which led him to start a home-based business organization as a part of the local chamber. Art founded the original Home-Based Business Group when he founded his company in his home and discovered that he had no form of support group that appreciated the unique needs of the home-based entrepreneur. He considered this a void in the Tracy business community and went to work promoting his new group through the Tracy Chamber of Commerce. Local: Tracy Chamber News The Tracy Chamber of Commerce has been busy studying and learning what the local businesses want in the way of services from the Chamber. New products and services are being offered or considered. One such new
