Information Management Many companies survived the slow economy by trimming down their infrastructure. This saved money during the difficult times, but can be a disadvantage as the business climate improves and the company must expand quickly. Whenever a company trims staffing budgets, there is the potential for the company to be left behind as the economy improves. This is a greater problem for smaller companies that were not able to consolidate positions during the downsizing. As the economy improves, many companies will be caught without talented staff or computer networking infrastructure to follow the rise in the business climate. They will be caught behind and playing a desperate game of catching up. Information Technology management outsourcing is an alternative that allows the businessperson to be ready for the rise in business activity without having to make the long-term commitment to expensive full-time talent. |
Editorial-
I wrote my last newsletter editorial as the bombs first fell on Baghdad. The war was fought, won, and the rebuilding began in less time than the distribution of the newsletter. But the fact is that it took many years of preparation, training and practice to prepare for the event. Much of the work was done before the first bomb fell. We would have failed had the military not carefully planned, practiced, and taken great pains to get the infrastructure into place before the liberation began. Business can learn a lot from this! We must take action right now to prepare our infrastructure for the new and improved business climate that is now on our horizon. Keith T. Chiles, MBA |
Managing Your Image
Defining the image is one of the most important, and neglected, duties of management. Image is the way customers or suppliers perceive your company. The image your company projects play an important role in defining your customers. Image defining actions are things done to create a specific image for a business. For the small business, it is usually defined by the motives of the founder, but the image of a large business is usually the result of a study. People often start businesses when they see an important niche. When this happens, the image of the company is defined by the personality of the founder. |
