Commonly Asked Questions

Why do you always recommend a consultant for improvement projects and planning?

I do this because most companies don't have the resources to develop internal expertise for doing specialized work like Strategic Planning, Technology Oversight, or Continuous Improvement projects.  In addition, employees open up much better to consultants who they feel will be safer than speaking with their own managers.  Consultants never have disciplinary authority and keeping employee information confidential benefits the consultant.

I had several interactions with a Tracy man who's questions might be interesting to the readers.  The following are the questions and answers of several e-mail messages.

You don't do any advertising in the newsletter so you must be charging people to print articles about them.  How much do they pay to get in the newsletter?

I do not charge for advertising space since I have no advertisers.  No Tracy business has paid to be covered in the newsletter and none ever will.  The newsletter is done by me as a contribution to the Tracy business community and I have greatly enjoyed meeting the people I cover in the newsletter.

The articles are all very positive, do you ever report the bad side of a business?  Have you ever refused to publish an article?  What is the criteria for being written up in the newsletter?

I only tell the story about the businesses I believe are providing good services to the members of our community.  I have never had a company cause me to pull the article after it has been published to the Internet.  I have pulled two articles just before publication after learning things about the company or its owner that prevented me from telling their story.  There is no criteria for being written up in the newsletter except that I think the company might be of interest to the readers.

How many people read this newsletter each month?

I have about two-hundred people on the mailing list who have asked to be notified when the newsletter has been published to the Internet.  Other evidence would suggest that around a thousand people read the newsletter each month.
