Feature: Continuous Improvement By: Keith T. Chiles, MBA Last month I wrote about turbulence in the workplace as opposed to using the word conflict. I defined conflicting opinions as being a beneficial way to obtain valuable input from employees and managers on how to better operate the company.
Surtec Inc. We step aboard airplanes that sparkle, walk on floors that shine, see clean walls where graffiti has been removed, walk on clean carpets that used to be dirty, use restrooms that are clean and disinfected, and sometimes look through windows that used to be spotted with watermarks. We take these things for granted and usually give no thought to who develops and distributes the products that make our lives more comfortable.

Editorial: Hidden Treasures Business areas pass through cycles. A new shopping center is built and features a large chain store in a good location, but the city grows in another direction and the big store moves to follow the growth of the population. That has happened to some of the shopping centers on the north edge of the city as the residential growth headed south. As the larger stores move out, the foot often follows and leaves some stores stranded with few customers. This lowers rents and can allow entrepreneurs to open specialty stores in the older shopping centers. This leads to what I consider the Hidden Treasures of businesses. This month I am featuring two of these Hidden Treasures located in shopping centers on the north end of Tracy Blvd just before 205: American Dog and Summit Mountain Sports. These are the first in a series of articles about the Hidden Treasures of Tracy. Keith T. Chiles, MBA |
Lance Neufeld of Summit Mountain Sports Where does the serious skier, snowboarder, or backpacker go in Tracy to get the top quality gear normally found in the specialty stores? They go to Summit Mountain Sports! Summit Mountain Sports, a specialty store and one of Tracy's Hidden Treasures. Located at 3240 N Tracy Blvd in the Longs shopping center near highway 205. Ray Rhead of "The American DOG" I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and one thing I missed when I moved out to the central valley twenty years ago was a trip to Casper's for a great hot dog with mustard, pickle relish, a slice of tomato, a slice of fresh onion, and a little salt for more flavor. There was something special about the way they prepared a hot dog that made them a delicious treat for the entire family. |
