Keith Chiles Consulting is a Tracy consulting company that has grown over the last few years and has now evolved into Time-Slice Consulting, Inc. Tracy’s own business and management consulting firm now offers a variety of services to the business communities of the Tracy, Stockton, and Modesto areas.

   Time-Slice was founded in 1996 by two technical people who started the company to design and install computer networks for small businesses. The company grew during its first couple of years, but was downsized as the two original founders were lured into high level technical jobs.

   Keith Chiles, one of the original founders, reactivated the original company in 2002 as Keith Chiles Consulting, but maintained the original Time-Slice.com web site as an affiliation of several business consultants. The new company that was reorganized in 2002 focused on helping clients develop business plans, web design, and technology oversight.

   After two years of operations, the newly reorganized company has grown to include seven affiliated consultants and was incorporated into Time-Slice Consulting, Inc. The evolved company still helps clients with strategic and business planning services, but has added computer network design, network administration, project management, database administration, software development, computer and physical security advising, and Human Resources consulting to their suite of business services provided to its growing list of clients.

   An example of the new kinds of projects being handled by Time-Slice Consulting is that of a company that has a significant amount of paper processing from customers throughout the country. Time-Slice consultants helped develop the company’s strategic plan and it became clear that it would be cost-effective to develop an Internet web-based database for customers to order services and receive updates on the progress of their work. This system reduced overhead costs by over thirty percent.

   Another project that Time-Slice is working on is a simple customer management system custom tailored to the small business to handle their unique data and tax requirements. The custom developed software should go on-line in March of next year and provide the company with a browser-based interface to obtain immediate information about their customers or business operations.

   Clients seeking an independent evaluation of the security of their operations have recently induced Time-Slice into focusing more on computer and physical security consulting services. Many companies are concerned about their security situation after downsizing operations during the recent recession. Concerns about computer and physical security have increased as a result of heightened security interest in the wake of terrorist attacks and increased legislation covering computer security. Time-Slice has audited business networks and found serious security problems for many of their clients.

   Network design has also been keeping Time-Slice Consulting busy. Infrastructure growth triggered by the recovering economy has put many local companies in the position of needing to upgrade without taking on the overhead of a permanent employee. One of Time-Slice’s clients in San Francisco utilized their services as a consulting Chief Technology Officer to delay the cost of hiring an expensive technology leader.
